Why Pro-Lifers Cannot Compromise

When it comes to the discussion of abortion there are many in the “pro-choice” camp who cannot understand why there cannot be some compromise or coming together with “pro-life” advocates. As a person who is pro-life, I find the choice for life the only option. In fact, it should not even be a choice. According to our Declaration of Independence, life is a right, not a choice and this should be self-evident. If we accept our Declaration of Independence, the only thing left is to understand when life begins.

I believe life begins at conception. Millions of others believe the same thing. There are also millions who do not know when life begins. There are still others, a minority, who believe life begins at birth. I do not think most people who say they believe life begins at birth really believe that. I think they do not want to think about it too much or study it too hard because they would have to admit life begins sooner than birth. If that is true they would have to consider when life begins and at what point are you allowed to kill it. That is what abortion does. It kills life. Well that last statement is not 100% true. Some people survived abortion and are here to talk about it. You can find evidence on www.Bornalivetruth.org Others have survived abortion and left to die after the procedure and they cannot talk about it.

Therefore, I believe life begins at conception and I believe abortion kills life. How can I compromise my position? Even in the case of rape and incest, which is a very small percentage of abortions, the product is still innocent life. Killing the innocent child is not going to change the fact that a rape occurred or incest was involved. Killing innocent life only adds to the tragedy. Again, there are many people who are here today who are the result of rape and incest. Jesse Jackson (click on “Jesse Jackson” hyperlink) is the product of rape. What would the Civil Rights movement be without him? Should they have not been allowed to live? Maybe if we kill them now it will ease the pain of the poor woman who was raped or involved in incest. I know that is ridiculous. The same is true for babies with birth defects. Should we kill them before they are born so we do not have to deal with them? Many are alive today whose parents were told their child would have birth defects and yet they are as healthy as most of us. Many were born with birth defects and are now a blessing to their families and others they touch. My son David is one of them. They are all human. They are all life. We all are.

It really comes down to one basic fact. Abortion kills. If we cut through the sound bites, the money, greed, and selfishness, we will agree everyone is precious and to value one life over another is not progress but brutality. How can we compromise?
