What will you ask God of for the country if he appears before you?

An interesting question when you consider all the manner of possibilities.  Imagine asking God for anything for this country.  As I am in the United States of America, I would be interceding for a country seemingly torn apart by politics, gender, race, and religion.  Conflict is around every corner.  Vile and ugly things are shouted back and forth between disparate factions each certain of their moral mandate.

The leadership in this country seems self centered not public centered.  Elected leadership from both parties is entrenched due to decades of re-electing incumbents.  The sad result is we have no new ideas, new faces, or fresh answers to new complex problems.  Power is at the heart of government and everyone wants to keep theirs.  A pox upon anyone who upsets the status quo.  Coalitions formed between the news media, entertainment media, and progressive leaning political groups; seek to push an agenda rejected in the last presidential election.  Since then, things have only gotten worse.

In our constant war against each other, many things exposed to the light of truth.  For too long sexual harassment has been swept under the rug and life went on with continued bad behavior.  Light is shown in dark complex affaires between Russia and various members of both major political parties.  Rampant opioid addiction is destroying whole communities.  Violence in some of our largest cities is unabated and the fight goes on for the guns.

This nation “under God” is one nation with many different people and beliefs.  We are a tolerant people as long as you agree with me.  Religious divisions are stark and tolerance is often lacking.  Some reading this could be offended I suggest I would speak to God on their behalf as I may not speak to the correct god or use the correct words, be in the correct posture, face the correct direction and have my audience at the correct time of day.  I am treading a very fine line but I will fear no evil for Thou art with me.

I would say what the Prophet Habakkuk said:

"Lord, I have heard of Your fame; I stand in awe of Your deeds, Lord.  Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2)

I would plead before an awesome Holy God, for mercy on America.  Because God is holy, He cannot abide sin in His presence.  Because God is just, He must punish those who break His commands.  In other words, we are all guilty of not living up to His Holiness or His Justice.  His commands are a spotlight on our sin.

I want to see the supernatural power of God displayed in our midst, knowing that power could be manifest in His judgment.  In any event, my request to God is:  "Lord in Your wrath, remember MERCY."
